Yanalla Farms is a family-owned Australian farm dedicated to sustainable and ethical farming practices. Located in the lush, fertile Sunshine Coast region, the farm is owned and operated by Karen & Rob Martin, whose deep passion for the land and commitment to responsible agriculture drive the farm's success.

Specialising in exotic tropical fruits, Yanalla Farms grows and distributes custard apples, lychees, and dragon fruit to markets across Australia. Known for their premium quality and exceptional taste, these fruits are carefully cultivated using innovative and sustainable farming techniques. Their dedication to freshness and superior produce has earned them a strong reputation among wholesalers, retailers, and consumers alike—including their very own PinksBlush custard apple variety.

About the Project

The Yanalla Farms website was a heart-centred design project developed in collaboration with owner Karen Martin. Building on the stunning brand strategy by Rachel Spearitt, our goal was to create an inviting and authentic online presence that conveyed the farm's story, philosophy, and dedication to sustainable farming.

The project evolved from a foundational storytelling website into a comprehensive ecommerce platform with farm gate collection capabilities. The work was recognised with a Joomla Design Award in 2019, showcasing its strong visual appeal and seamless user experience.

Considerations & solutions

Starting Point:

We began with a blank canvas - a new website project with Rachel Spearitt's beautiful brand strategy as our visual foundation.

Karen and Rob's story was full of heart as generational farmers creating their own footprint by developing their very own PinksBlush variety.

Our Approach:

Getting to know everything about the farm and Karen and Rob's aspirations was key to working out how we could share their story authentically. Farm visits with Vadar (the family dog) as our escort became an essential part of the process.

Through inspired workshops with Karen and daughter Jess, we mapped out the site structure and customer journeys. We created an inspirational recipe section and farm blog, offering the latest farm news and coverage of industry and foodie events that Yanalla Farm often hosts. The website aspired to be an invitation into Yanalla Farm, showcasing their farm gate produce while sharing their story of life as growers of exotic tropical fruits.

Collaboration

Working closely with Karen and Jess, we mapped out initial requirements and explored all there was to know about life on the farm. The collaborative process was deeply personal and authentic, built on genuine relationships and trust.

Stuart from OPN 365 implemented the ecommerce functionality with complex farm gate collection variables and comprehensive reporting, enabling Karen to seamlessly manage pick and pack ordering and collection times. We also implemented Point of Sale for farm gate collections, with additional SEO support from Clickstarter.

Standout Moments:

 The collaborative design process with Karen captured the true essence of Yanalla Farms, leveraging Rachel Spearitt's brand strategy to create a cohesive and visually stunning online presence. We implemented a user-friendly layout with storytelling at its core, providing Karen with a foundation that naturally evolved into full ecommerce and farm gate sales capabilities.

The integration of complex farm gate collection variables with comprehensive reporting allowed Karen to seamlessly manage pick and pack ordering and collection times, complete with Point of Sale functionality.

Outcome & Impact

The Yanalla Farms website successfully embodies the farm's values and mission, creating a deeply engaging and visually beautiful online presence. The platform has evolved from a storytelling foundation into a comprehensive business tool supporting both online sales and farm gate operations.

The recognition with a Joomla Design Award in 2019 is testament to the project's exceptional design quality, but more importantly, it's created a lasting platform that continues to grow with the business. Karen and Rob now have a digital home that authentically represents their passion and connects them directly with customers who share their values.

Reflections

Immersing myself in the creative process and exploring the stunning Sunshine Coast location - my own backyard - was incredibly inspiring. My heart lights up when discovering and sharing clients' stories, and Yanalla Farm's generational story was so inspirational and easy to share.

This project perfectly embodies my mission of creating meaningful connections through authentic storytelling. By taking time to truly understand Karen and Rob's passion for sustainable agriculture, we created more than just a website—we built a digital extension of their farm that invites visitors into their world. The ongoing relationship, with continued farm visits and project evolution, demonstrates how thoughtful design partnerships can grow into lasting collaborations that genuinely support business growth while staying true to core values.
